Weekend in Philly

Bryan ended up having the weekend off! So on Friday afternoon after a quick trip to the pool for Jax to wiggle his little legs we jumped in the car and headed to Philadelphia. Bry was finishing up at the laundromat when we arrived so we made ourselves cozy in his hotel room and I nursed Jax. Bry walked in and Jax looked up at him, waited a few beats then gave the biggest gummy smile! He was so happy to see his daddy.

I have to say baby boy is the best travel companion in the whole wide world. He slept the entire way! He woke up once to squeak Sofie for a few moments then the purring sound of his snoring resumed.

We spent Friday night just relaxing and eating, fueling for our long run.

Saturday was our anniversary! We got to celebrate together after all 🙂

After having breakfast at the hotel [continental oatmeal w/ raisins, cinnamon & walnuts and 2 hardboiled eggs plus lots of water] we headed out in search of Schuykill River Trail.  We’d only seen the trail online and knew you could park near the Philadelphia Museum of Art and meet up with the trail from there. Parking on the other hand was a bit harder to find. 30 minutes later though we were finally in a spot with no time limit and headed out for our 11 mile long run.

It was so nice to have my running partner back and to be able to celebrate our anniversary not only as a family but in a way that is very much us by running. However, fueling with vending machine food and Ruby Tuesday’s is not highly recommended.  It was tough. Mentally we were both drained by 9 miles. We also had to do several out and backs to get to our mileage without getting lost which added to the mental breakout. But we completed it. 2 hours later we were D.O.N.E.

We ended at the Museum and walked up an exceedingly long hill to get to the top of the Rocky steps!

Can you spot us at the tippy top?

There we are 🙂

We found a local place for lunch called Urban Saloon. It was delicious!! We shared honey garlic wings and I had a grilled cheese sandwich and New England clam chowder. 5 stars. After we refueled we headed back to the hotel and went to the pool so Jax could kick around a bit after having spent 2 hours in his carseat. We then promptly crashed family nap style for an hour or so. The rest of the night included a lovely romantic Thai dinner at a hole in the wall restaurant, lots of cuddles and relaxation.

Sunday we ate the hotel again for breakfast [PB & J on an english muffin + 2 hard boiled eggs] and headed out to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

The weather was cold and overcast so we didn’t stay out long. After lunch Jax and I hit the road back home. Saying goodbye to daddy again was even harder 😦 We sure miss that guy.
