2nd Pregnancy: Weeks 4-10

I’ve learned quickly that second pregnancies are a while other ballpark.  Sure I’ve done it before and this time I trust my body much more but there are some things that I’ve encountered that make #2 much harder than #1 (namely that I still have to care for the crazy toddler while puking out my guts or falling asleep standing up). I have a blog post coming soon about all of that. The biggest positive difference has been that it seems 2nd pregnancies fly by so much faster because you’re constantly busy with your first child to pay too much attention to every moment that passes (though every day I try to stop and focus on this new little gummy bear inside me and give it the one-on-one attention it deserves too). The hardest part has been morning sickness.

I was horribly sick with Jackson from weeks 6-11. I was nauseous a lot in the beginning but it quickly changed to puking here and there, with instant relief. This time I’ve been nauseous 24/7 since 5.5 weeks. At 8 weeks I caved and started Zofran. It was a huge relief. At 9.5 weeks I thought I was too cool for meds and tried to wean myself. I went from twice a day to once a day and then last Thursday I went the entire day without a single dose. Friday morning I woke up puking my guts out: breakfast, snacks, dinner from the night before! I called my OB who scheduled me in for the day, tested me and determined I was grossly dehydrated and leaking keytones. Luckily, my mom was able to watch Jackson as I spent 4 hours in the ER getting mega doses of Zofran and 2 liters of fluids. I left feeling much better and hungry for a snickers bar.

Besides the morning sickness, that seems to be getting worse despite being 11 weeks pregnant on Wednesday, and exhaustion that leaves me praying that Jackson suddenly became narcoleptic, I’ve felt pretty good. I know it sounds crazy but sometimes it’s hard to believe we’re pregnant again. I can’t wait to find out what we’re having, namely so I can address gummy as “he” or “she” rather than Gummy.

Without further ado, belly pics from weeks 4-10 (in week 4 I weighed 113.8lbs. I week 10 I weighed 109.2. Hopefully, like with Jax, I start gaining weight from here on out)

How far along? 10 weeks 5 days
Total weight gain: down 5lbs from pre-pregnancy (113.8 to 108.8)
Maternity clothes? Not really

Sleep: Can’t get enough of it
Best moment this week: Jackson resting his head on the belly and kissing “baby”
Miss Anything? The feeling of not being nauseous, beer & wine (which is strange because I haven’t really drank since I got pregnant with Jax)
Movement: I swear I felt Gummy do a somersault the other night
Food cravings: Snickers, anything chocolate really (which is great for Halloween candy being in all the stores), caramel apples, salads (which is really strange)
Anything making you queasy or sick: Meat. Blech. Gummy is a pescetarian. And that’s only when the fish is nice and breaded and unrecognizable 😉
Gender Prediction: I have a feeling I know what baby is but I don’t want to say it yet 😉
Symptoms: Nausea. So much nausea. I have to pee all the time, though I barely drink thanks to the nausea.
Belly Button in or out? In
Wedding rings on or off? On. If I wasn’t pregnant I’d get them resized at least a size smaller. They’re pretty big (I’m about 30lbs lighter than when Bry and I got married)
Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy! And hormonal. In the crying sense.
Looking forward to: Finding out what gender baby is, and seeing Gummy again! (Our next sono is Oct 8th)
