Pregnancy #3: 13 Weeks

13 weeks + 3 days

Weight Gain

0lbs. On Monday I was over my prepregnancy weight but the past two days I’m back to 1.2lbs under. Since I’ve been tracking on Wednesdays for consistency sake I’m going with today’s weight of 1.2lbs under (plus Monday seemed to be a fluke)

Fitness

I’ve been covering a lot of miles this week despite the crazy heat (and return of the 100% humidity). 1 double bob run of 2.5 miles (intervals 1/1 for 4.5mi total), a solo 2.5 miler followed by about 3mi of walking around the zoo and back to the car, 5mi of touring dc yesterday with our friends and 3mi to and from the metro plus around downtown including through a torrential downpour.

Sleep

Bry and I have been taking turns on weekend morning getting up with jack. I sleep in with Drew on Saturdays and he sleeps in on Sundays. It’s nice! We’ve also pushed the boys bedtime back to 7m and jack is now sleeping until 5-5:45 which is a world better than 3:45. We’ve started going to bed when we put the boys down again (yup, at 7pm!) so I’ve been clocking 10-11 hours of broken (thanks to pee breaks) sleep a night. Sometimes I still nap once I get up with jack while he watches netflix and 80% of the time i nap while the kids nap too. All the sleep, while I can! Last night was the first night where I woke up at 2am and tossed and turned for 2 hours before falling back asleep. I wonder if it’s from going to bed too early or insomnia starting. Or the fact that I woke up to pee and came back to a husband snoring like a freight train.

Cravings

Salads, peaches/nectarines, boston market, soft baked chocolate chip cookies, ice cold lemon water, ice cream & popsicles

Aversions

Raw onions, garlic, the thought of mexican food

Movement

Nothing 100% but I *think* I might have felt a kick yesterday

Symptoms

  • Nausea. Most days I’ve been taking my meds twice a day.
  • Round ligament pain. Monday was especially painful. I’d get a stabbing pain on both sides whenever I stood up. Baby’s a growin’
  • Hip and lower back pain. And really badly tight it bands that are screaming for my yoga mat. But it’s always either yoga or sleep, and I’ll let you guess which one wins out.
  • Emotional. No real tears but I still get choked up randomly sometimes especially reading about babies or thinking about us becoming a family of 5! I seriously couldn’t be more excited or feel more blessed. Being adopted, I always wanted a large family of my own and I feel really lucky to be creating one and such a sweet one at that! Blessed doesn’t begin to cover it.
  • Achy, breaky…girls. If ya know what I’m hinting. They’ve been growing (wahoo!) and have been fairly sore off and on lately. Sometimes it’s right under my underarm which is strange.
  • Peeing machine. Mostly at night. I’m actually typing at nap time right now because I got fed up after 13 pee breaks in a 20 minute nap. What the eff bladder?!

Looking forward to

  • My in-laws visiting. The boys are at such fun ages, I can’t wait for them to experience them now! And we always have a blast with Mimi and pappy. I’m hoping to pack in a whole lot of fun: zoo, children’s museum, maybe the children’s library?!
  • Finding out the gender and that everything looks 100% in there. We just scheduled our anatomy scan for August 31st! So put your bets in now 😉
  • My favorite cupcakery coming back from their “summer break”. One of my friends informed me that they are now selling ice cream sandwiches. I was so excited to drive over and buy them all when I discovered they’re closed until August 11th. Womp womp. But that’s my next OB appt so obviously I’ll need an ice cream sandwich to celebrate and they’ll be open in time for all the birthdays so I won’t hate them too much.

-1.2 from pre pregnancy (I think I gained almost 2lbs this week though)

Fitness

I’m back in my running shoes! I’ve gone on a few 20 minute runs this week (one with the double bob which was TOUGH). The bob weighs about 100lbs with the kids in it and in the heat and humidity were having it takes my breath away just trying to push them up a hill. Whew. I’m keeping my runs at 20 minutes because of the heat index advisories were having. It’s hard to fully catch your breath period, let alone while running, so I’m taking it slow and not pushing it while baby’s on board. It feels good to move again though! Lots of walking too. I’m hoping to get back into my prenatal yoga and strength DVDs this week for some cross training.

Sleep

I can’t get enough and always feel like I could fall into a comatose sleep at any moment. Jax has started a new game this week where he spends the hours between 4-5am rocking and yelling Andrews name and when I get to the nursery to remove him before he wakes big brother, he curls up in a ball and pretends to be fast sleep. I wait then eventually go back to bed and he starts it again as soon as I lay down. Repeat 53 times before I physically remove him and he screams that he’s still tired, which inevitably wakes up Andrew. Any advice?!?

Cravings

Salads, chocolate, fruit, ice cold water with fresh lemon juice, omelets with feta, turkey and cheese sandwiches

Raw onions, garlic

Movement

Nothing 100% yet but really excited for the thumps, rolls, wiggles and kicks

Symptoms

  • Nausea. I didn’t vomit this week (wahoo!) but definitely feel queasy off and on throughout the day. Eating often helps. This morning I felt MS sneaking up and ended up taking my meds before 5am which helped a lot. I think I didn’t eat enough for dinner last night/went too long between dinner and breakfast. It sucked.
  • Round ligament pain, especially on the right side where baby’s head is 🙂
  • Hip and lower back pain. Probably exasperated by running and not stretching well after. Oops.
  • Waterworks. I’ve been such an emotional bomb this week. Basically I tear up and cry at the smallest things which usually makes me laugh because it’s so absurd. Holy hormones.

Looking forward to

  • My in-laws visiting next month! They’re coming for a week to celebrate our not so baby boys 3rd birthday. How is he almost 3?!?!? Where does the time go?!
  • Along that same line–celebrating Jackson’s 3rd birthday, Bryan’s 28th birthday (and I suppose my 27th birthday too. Craziness?? This will be my 3rd birthday in 4 years that I’ve been pregnant for!!)
  • Finding out the gender. I still have a *gut* feeling but just want to know one way or the other. I’m actually more nervous/apprehensive/impatient for the anatomy scan to find out if baby bean is growing well (read:has 2 kidneys) more than to find out the sex though that’ll be exciting too.
  • Best moment this week:

We had our NT scan yesterday! We ended up bringing the boys which ended up being awesome. With the help of being caged in the bob and lots of snacks for distraction they were really good. Bry got to see how much bean has grown and we heard that gorgeous heartbeat (161bpm). Baby’s measuring 3 days ahead and looks perfect. We saw a great picture of it’s profile and well, baby’s adorable! 😉 when we left the appointment we called my mother in law and Jackson told her all about the visit, which made me so grateful for taking him. “I went to the doctor and saw baby in the belly. It was moving. It said ch-ch-ch-ch (makes sound of heartbeat). It’s getting bigger. I’m getting bigger too!” During the appointment he kept asking if the baby was swimming and if those were baby toes. Oh 3 year olds. They’re amazing.

Monday Fun & NT Scan

We originally had our NT scan (an ultrasound and blood test that check for genetic abnormalities in a fetus) scheduled for Wednesday and Bry had taken the day off work to come to it. But when he woke up Monday morning to a text from the technician he rides with saying he wasn’t coming in, we decided to take a random day off and hope we could reschedule the appointment for later that day once the office opened. Jackson was up at the crazy hour of 4am and spent the next 50 minutes pretending to sleep when I’d go to the nursery to get him, only to start rocking and screaming Andrews name as soon as I went back to bed. At 5 I finally dragged him from his bed and to the kitchen. It was a nice surprise to find Bryan still home and with a Monday off work!

He decided to take jack to Starbucks to pick up an iced green tea for me (my current love) while I stayed home and waited for Andrew to awake and ate a protein pancake with blueberries. They got home just as I was changing Andrew. I threw some changes of clothes at them and told them we should go to a local trail called Rock Creek Park before it got too hot. Here in DC we’ve been having heat index advisories every day from noon to 8pm due to poor air quality from high temperatures and humidity. By 6am we were on the trail.

I kissed the boys goodbye and headed out for a 20 minute run. I kept it slow and listened to my body. I didn’t check my garmin until I was done but managed to cover just over 2 miles.

When I met back up with the boys Bry took off for a trail run while I headed back towards the trail head with the kids. There we drank water, threw rocks into the creek and enjoyed the gorgeous morning while we waited for the ultrasound office to open.image

Eventually my stomach started growling again so we took off in search of donuts. We found GBD on google maps and drove the ridiculous DC streets the 3 miles to their front door. I called the ultrasound office while walking into the store and managed to get an 11:30 appointment so we quickly scrapped our plans to head over to the zoo. I highly recommend this place if you’re in town. We’d never been b they had incredible donuts (we got an apple fritter, Nutella, tres leches and a maple bourbon bacon) plus really good fried chicken biscuits. We ate them while we drove the hour (6 whole miles) home. Both boys passed out in the backseat on the way.

I ran in the house and quickly showered and changed then we gathered snacks for the boys and headed over to the hospital. Bry hadn’t seen the babe since our 6 week ultrasound when it was just a little tadpole. Seeing his reaction to how big baby bean has gotten and how much it’s grown was awesome. But the best reaction was jackpns who kept asking if the baby was swimming and if that was he baby’s toes. We heard the strong, beautiful hb at 161 and everything else looked great too. We couldn’t get over how precious that little profile was. I’m really glad the boys ended up going with us to experience it. Jackson called his MiMi afterward and told her how the bay said “ch-ch-ch” making the sound of the heartbeat. “I went to the doctor and saw the baby in the belly. It’s getting bigger. I’m getting bigger too!” <3<3<3

We quickly drove by Sweetgreen and picked up some salads for lunch before heading home to put the boys down for their naps. It was a really wonderful and special day that I’ll cherish forever. We can’t wait to meet this little bean ❤

Pregnancy #3: 11 Weeks

Fitness Lots of walking around Cape May and the beach, some swimming.

Sleep I can’t get enough but I haven’t been napping and I think it’s helped me sleep better at night!

Cravings Salads, chocolate (especially dark chocolate turtles (dark chocolate covered caramel & pecans)), fruit, omelets with feta cheese and veggies (I had one almost daily in Cape May), sandwiches, seafood, peaches

Aversions Raw onions, garlic

Movement I’ve felt a few thumps and pulls but nothing concrete yet

Symptoms Nausea. I didn’t vomit this week (wahoo!) but would get nauseous for an hour or two every day around noon and every morning if I waited too long to eat after waking. Headache. But that’s likely a combination of lots of sun and not a lot of fluids.

Looking forward to Hearing baby’s HB tomorrow! I had to reschedule last week’s appointment so tomorrow will be the first time I actually get to hear the heart beat and not just see it! (Update: HB was 164bpm!) Our NT scan next Wednesday. I can’t wait to have a solo date with the hubs to see how much babe has grown! Finding out the gender. I have a sneaking suspicion, but not as definitive as with the boys so I’d like to know so I can use proper pronouns and even a name 😉

Pregnancy #3: 10 Weeks

Fitness

My first run since we found out baby’s baking! I did 4.5mi of intervals with the stroller (1mi run, 1mi walk, 1mi run, 1.5mi walk to the park). I felt good. The kids are HEAVY but I didn’t experience any pain or discomfort.

Sleep

Jax is still on the early rising train which has been ROUGH. But I’m surviving with naps while the boys nap and broken napping in the AM while Jack watches Neflix. Not ideal but neither is waking up at 4am.

Cravings

Popsicles, chili salads from Wendy’s, raisin bran

Aversions

Mushrooms, garlic and raw onions. The small of PB.

Movement

Lots of pulling behind my belly button and sometimes a bit of pulling/pressure lower in my uterus

Symptoms

Hyperemesis. I spent the 4th of July in the ER getting pumped full of saline w/ sugar, potassium pill and anti-nausea meds it was so bad. The bright side was that I got an unexpected ultrasound and saw baby moving and waving with a beautiful, strong HB of 174!

Thirst. So thirsty. I’m especially loving ice cold juice or water. And popsicles.

Congestion, runny nose and sneezing.

Dizziness. I asked the ER doc about the intense dizziness I’ve been experiencing and he thought it was likely a result of low electrolytes so I’ve been drinking more water + Gatorade and eating some bananas to up my low potassium.

Looking forward to

Cape May! Not only for 4 blissful beach days with my favorite guys but it’s where we’re taking our announcement pic 🙂

Pregnancy #3: 9 Weeks

Fitness

A couple walks. Lots of rain this week brought cooler weather. We have been so grateful for the reprieve!

Sleep

I’m still so very tired which in no small part has been further worsened by Jackson’s new habit of 3:45-4am wake ups. That kid needs to learn how to sleep longer! I’ve only napped half the days this week (usually on the days that begin 3 hours before sunrise) but have been sleeping really well at night, despite lots of pee wake ups. I’ve been having insane dreams too.

Cravings

The biggest craving this pregnancy so far was pineapple juice. Frozen and blended with ice. I had such a bad craving for it it kept me up 3 hours one night dreaming of making it. Ice cold water is also delicious. Black bean and cheese burritos from Baja Fresh with green/verde salsa, fresh peaches, oj and bagels were also thoroughly enjoyed.

Aversions

Mushrooms, garlic and raw onions.

Movement

No but I’ve felt a lot of pulling around my belly button which is exciting.

Symptoms

Morning Sickness. Most days it’s just nausea and some dry heaving/gagging but two days this week were solid vomitting. Ugh.

Thirst. So thirsty. I’m especially loving ice cold juice or water.

Congestion. So much congestion and so snotty. Yum! I don’t think the weather changes have done me any favors.

Dizziness. It’s gotten really bad this week where occasionally I’ve sat up, waited for my blood pressure to regulate, stood up and gotten 15 feet or so to get really dizzy, Bambi like shaking legs and numbness that kind of courses through my body. Thankfully it’s never been while holding one of the kids but it’s really scary. Im going to talk to my OB about it at my appt Tuesday.

Looking forward to

Cape May NEXT WEEK. We desperately need a family vacation and I’m thrilled for 5 uninterrupted days with my 3 favorite guys.

Weight Gain

+ 2lbs (-3lbs from pre-pregnancy weight)

Fitness

Two 2 mile walks with the kids. It’s been brutally, unforgivingly hot out so we’ve been spending most days on the couch.

Sleep

I’m so tired. Lately I wake up a lot at night tossing and turning from 1) need to pee, 2) thirst/dry throat, 3) nausea, 4) crazy dreams. I nap with the boys everyday and sleep like the dead as soon as my head hits the pillow.

Cravings

Salmon on salads (which makes me so queasy as soon as I start eating it–seafood is not OK right now). Ice cold water. OJ. Fries sound OK cause they’re simple but really not craving anything. Though as I type this I would pay good money for a fruit salad and/or ice cold pineapple juice.

Aversions

Mushrooms. Tomato anything: tomatoes, tomato salsa, tomato sauce. Raw onions. Garlic. Anything super smelly.

Movement

Not yet!

Symptoms

Exhaustion. I’m just constantly tired and could drift into a deep sleep at any moment.

Morning Sickness. Yesterday I started vomiting again. I’m hoping I can avoid that by eating constantly but if I can’t keep the vomiting at bay I’m afraid I’m going to have to get stronger meds, which makes me very apprehensive.

Thirst. So thirsty. I also have a cold that the boys generously shared with me that makes it a hundred times worse and it’s hard to drink too much at once or I get really nauseous and start dry heaving (and if there’s a lot in there, actually heaving).
